History
‘Studying History is the ultimate passport to the future.’ - Anna Whitlock
At Regina Coeli our intention is that our curriculum ignites pupils’ curiosity to ask questions about the past and understand events that have impacted the world in which they live today. We prioritise key knowledge so that pupils are enabled to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. As children journey through our curriculum, our aim is that, they gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of global history. This begins with pupils understanding their life and their identity, their community’s history and key significant figures before moving to British and global history. This provides a foundation for them to be able to fully participate in our society. In the Early Years, pupils will explore the difference between the past and the present. They will learn to identify events in their own pasts including their birth and special events such as Baptism. They begin to create their own timelines which develop their understanding of chronology. Our History offer is personalised so that our pupils have the opportunity to study the rich heritage stories that make up the fabric of our community. By studying History, pupils will understand the complexities of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity. We teach through enquiry-based questions and we aim for pupils to leave Regina Coeli Primary School with secure chronological understanding of time periods in history.
