Key Stage 2

The Curriculum in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6)

Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children

At the heart of Catholic education is the person of Jesus Christ. The Catholic school provides an educational framework within which our young people can grow in their relationship with Christ in a way that takes account of their individual human development. (Soutwark Diocesan Policy on Religious Education and Collective Worship).

Religious Education enables our children to know and grow in their faith and develop their spirituality. At Regia Coeli the moral, social, spiritual and cultural education is the corner stone of our mission as teachers, Governors, pupils and parents. We have a close partnership with the home and parish to ensure the children grow as committed Christians and followers of the Catholic Church.

The “Come and See” scheme is used throughout the school for the teaching and learning of RE. Through this scheme the children learn about other faiths. Alongside it, ‘A journey in Love’ is used for SRE (Sex and Relationship Education). The Parish priest is always available to guide and support parents, teachers and children.

RE Whole School Planning

The programmes of study undertaken in Years 3 – 6 are based on the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum.  Continued importance is placed on the development of essential core skills in reading, writing, oral skills and numeracy. Foundation subjects are taught through Focus Education Learning Challenge Curriculum.

In all year groups, daily teaching in maths and english takes place along with weekly teaching of RE, computing, science, art, music and physical education.  The teaching of geography and history takes place in blocks at various times within a specific term.

Key Stage 2 testing takes place at the end of Year 6 with most pupils at Regina Coeli attaining or exceeding the nationally expected standard for 11 year olds – Level 4.
